MAJOR GENERAL
RAYMOND D. BARRETT JR.
Deputy Chief of Staff for Operation & Training

United States Army Training and Doctrine Command

A Distinguished Military Graduate of the University of Texas Army ROTC program, Major General Raymond D. Barrett, Jr. was commissioned into the Infantry in 1972.  He holds a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree in Accounting from the University of Texas at Austin, a Master of Business Administration Degree in Management from the University of Dayton, and Master of Military Arts and Science Degree from the Army Command and General Staff College.  His military schooling includes Airborne, Air Assault, and Ranger schools, as well as the US Army Command and General Staff College, the Army School of Advanced Military Studies and Army War College. 

     Major General Barrett commanded the 3rd Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment with the 24th Infantry Division during Desert Shield and
Desert Storm.  Among his numerous command and staff positions since then, he
commanded the 2d Brigade, 2d Infantry Division in the Republic of Korea, was Chief of
Staff of the 24th Infantry Division (re-flagged to 3rd Infantry Division) at Fort Stewart,
Georgia, and Assistant Division Commander for Support, 2d Infantry Division again in
the Republic of Korea.  He also served as Chief of Combat Maneuver Division in the
Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations and Plans, Headquarters, Department
of the Army and as the Deputy Director for Operations/J3, Headquarters USPACOM,
Camp Smith, Hawaii.  Major General Barrett ‘s most recent assignment was as the 31st Commanding General of the United States Army Training Center and Fort Jackson. 
He assumed his position as the Deputy Chief of Staff of Operations & Training in
September 2001.

     Major General Barrett and his wife, Joan, have one child.
