Congratulations to all of you commissioned through the University of Texas Army ROTC Program – the Longhorn Battalion. On behalf of the officers of the Texas Caissons, our alumni association, the board of directors and the general membership, I welcome you to our Texas Caissons website. As president, I wish to welcome you to the Caissons, explain our purpose, and invite you to participate in our organization. Our purpose is to promote and advance the interests of the Army ROTC Longhorn Battalion at the University of Texas; to provide alumni with a convenient focal point to maintain long-lasting bonds of friendship and camaraderie; to provide mentoring and assist in the education of cadets of the Longhorn Battalion; to provide scholarships, financial assistance, and recognition to outstanding cadets of the Longhorn Battalion; and to support the University and the Texas Exes. The Texas Caissons is a great idea. We will, during the coming year, be establishing the Longhorn Battalion Hall of Fame, to recognize outstanding alumni; formalizing our “Founders’ Day” to commemorate the establishment of ROTC at the University of Texas; and establishing a formal Order or Regiment of which our alumni will be members. We have a lot of activities planned for the coming year and we look forward to working closely with LTC Kathleen Taylor, the incoming Professor of Military Science and her staff. I’d like to pay tribute to all the previous year’s officers and board of directors. They have done great work in keeping the Longhorn spirit alive and keeping the Caissons moving forward. I especially would like to salute Keith Maxie, our outgoing President, who has faithfully served the Caissons for three years and has provided stalwart leadership during his tenure. Once again, I invite all alumni to join the Caissons. We have the foundation of a great organization and with your support, it can only get better. And, if you have a classmate, invite him or her to join also. Hook ‘em Horns! George Soriano |
