One of the
Caissons’ primary means of support for our Longhorn cadets is through
the provision and management of scholarship funds. The number and
value of the Caissons Memorial Scholarships vary by year. The current four Caissons Memorial Scholarships are shown below. In the Fall Semester 2007, three scholarships were awarded.

Russell A. Steindam
Memorial Scholarship is named in honor of 1LT Russell A. Steindam,
UT ’68, Armor, Congressional Medal of Honor winner for actions in
Tay Ninh Province, Republic of Vietnam, 1 February
1970.

Tommy
Pham Memorial Scholarship fund. Sponsored by the generous
contribution of Tommy’s widow, Ms. Maria Truong; it is named in
honor of Tommy Pham, UT ‘98. Each year a scholarship is provided
from this fund.

Ward T.
Blacklock Memorial Scholarship is named in honor of Ward T.
Blacklock, UT ‘70. Ward was a founding member and an exceptionally
dedicated officer and Board of Directors member of the Texas
Caissons.

Orlando A. Bonilla Memorial Scholarship is awarded in memory of Captain Orlando A. Bonilla, Killeen, Texas, who died in an aircraft crash in Iraq in
January 2005. Captain Bonilla graduated from the University of
Texas at Austin in December 1999, was a Distinguished Military
Graduate from Army ROTC and received a Regular Army commission as an
Army aviator.
